developed industrial nation without
universal healthcare.
Universal healthcare does not equal
socialism. That idea is pushed so often it makes me sick.
Also, although social security was
started by a democrat it was expanded to its more current status by eisenhower (a republican)
Now your views on abortion and gay marriage are certainly relevant
but arguable to many. I think partial abortions are wrong always.
but efforts to make abortion illegal and taboo have proven to do nothing for lowering rates.
America still has a very very high
rate compared to other countries,
just look it up. Education and access to contraception is always
more effective. If you believe otherwise, well you just haven't seen the facts.
Gays.....I've met enough to know
that they did not choose to be gay, most are just born gay....we all have our moral battles and all I can do is thank god that I don't have to deal with that one. I am married to a wonderful woman and because we are a man and woman we compliment each other naturally.
Who wouldn't want that? Its hard enough finding someone to love being heterosexual. Could you maintain celibacy if you were attracted to men and not women? If you think gays are evil and don't want to be happy well...maybe you need a little more love and compassion in your heart

However Black Afrikans can be "successful" in the US without betraying their race by supporting policies that are detrimental to the majority Black Afrikan population - but Black Afrikans must be overqualified or excellent because being qualified or average is not enough to overcome the racism against Black Afrikans that currently exists in the US

I believe you may have lived a few years longer than me, and cannot overcome that which you have experienced as oppression. Your words carry a pain I may not fully understand. That is a tragedy. I hope you have the patience to stop, and look around you, to see WHO is oppressing you now.. 45 years later..

There is nothing that stops any person more in achieving his/her dreams than someone who constantly nags them, saying that they will amount to nothing. Nothing so debilitating than a leader who would run lemmings off the cliffs if there were some.

From MY PERSPECTIVE, I see the Wrights, Jacksons, and Farakhans of the world as those who would lead good people into believing their ambitions would never take root, not because they are unrealistic ambitions, but because whitey wouldn't allow it. All they are doing is making excuses, which some will use to NOT TRY.

Look, not everyone will be on top. Not everyone will have "it all." But if Blacks are reminded constantly of how "unable" they are in achieving completely reasonable goals much less the spectacular ones, then they have little chance of achieving successes that I (white guy in non urban area) KNOW they are capable of.

Irey's comment actually has a reasonable point. Bush's conservatism has not been entirely consistent. (for different reasons I think) And though I ABHOR the socialist bent afforded by the left/liberal Obama's policy objectives, his election would (should) render the useless patrons of racial divisiveness such as Wright, Jackson, and Sharpton, et al.. Unecessary.

The PROBLEM however, is they would not go away. Rather than suggest we are all seeking essentially the same place in life, those persons rely on the racial divide to provide bread for their own tables.

What is a "BLACK CHURCH," or a "BLACK CAUCUS," or a "BLACK COLLEGE," or a "NIGHT AT THE APOLLO?" Do these groupings help anyone better understand each other? Is there a reasonable benefit to still hold this segregation type of activity still? Is there a measurable benefit?

Mr. Akinyemi I always admire that you consult principle first in your decision process. Let me float something by you. The argument is often made that the Republican Party has historically been more progressive in matters of race relations. At the same time we find the Democratic Party has been more influential - from Reconstruction right through Jim Crow- they have essentially shaped the racial landscape of this country. Do you think it would be advantageous to have a black man as the titular head of that party, assuming Republicans continue to hold their traditional progressive views? Especially since we've not had particularly conservative government from the Republicans mightn't a change in the racial psychology of the Democrats be a greater benefit than the dubious conservatism of Bush/McCain at this point in history? And mightn't the election of a black Democrat facilitate the possibility that a person such as Williams, or Steele, mentioned in one of the other comments, could make a serious run for the presidency in the future. I could place into EVERY position of power a black man so long as he had the strength of character necessary for the job. I don't care whether they are black or white or yellow or pinstriped. I only care that they support human dignity by not enabling the distrust, and poverty building schemes used by those in the left/liberal side to retain power.

Conservatives believe ALL MEN are indeed capable of accomplishing that which is necessary for a strong community. Liberals believe blacks and other minorities need a crutch, or at the very least an excuse.

God has blessed us with the ability to make the best of our environment. What are YOU doing to enhance yours? Are you sitting back, thinking that a minister, who while blaming all your problems on others, is solving those same problems?

However, the message republicans need to get out is that if it were the RIGHT black guy it would be a different story. Give me a Condoleeza, a Walter Williams, Shelby Steele, Alan Keyes.

Obama is a WARMED OVER Hillary wanna be who speaks nice. It is sad that some blacks who consider themselves "conservative" would even consider voting for such a radical socialist.

As for the Wright persecution, Obama used his connections with Wright (a magnet for the Black "who-is-who" in Chicago) to obtain his seat of power. Wright is, in my opinion, a primary source of civil discontent between whites, blacks and all else in this country today. His brand of "preaching" at the very least offends white America, and more appropriately scares them into distrust of those who would be exposed over a long period of time to him as had Obama. Wright DOES Matter.

Sadly, the loss Obama will suffer will be seen as a blow from whitey on the poor disadvantaged black population. Conservatives who would never want race to be an issue, will suffer the wrath of the press which will actually know the truth, just for the sheer story of it. Wright WILL be used, as he is relevant to the character of the man who would be our president.
