Martin Luther King Jr. has become an icon rather than a visionary and teacher. Children are being taught about him as a historical side note. Instead they should be taught about what he believed, why he believed it, and what can be accomplished by believing in something so strongly.

Grand Rapids has the same conditions. Local "black leaders" pushed to get the main road Division changed to MLK drive. The thing is, thats the same route used by many in the drug/crime underground.

What you say about MLK is also true in Dallas where it runs through the crime riddled South Dallas neighborhoods next to Fair Park and the Cotton Bowl.

I believe you are on to something in your last paragraph about black nationalism, though the very same thing can be said about any nationalism in America.

It is odd that many of the people that walk the streets in our country today as Americans are only two or three generations removed from wanting to kill each other in the homeland.

We need to seek out the ideals of the melting pot. The only identity group in America that works is "American."
